T.w.A.K has collaborated with a local artist KIM KAY to decorate these barrels in indigenous fauna and flora, thereby creating once off art pieces.
The brewing of the beer is a common practice among Mozambicans , and they use either rice or maize flour. The beer is thick and sweet and often drunk from a common pot by everyone. Beer is brewed for special occasions such as weddings.

The project that sources these barrels started 8 years ago in a remote fishing village after the founders noticed increased netting and trawling and became concerned.
Due to the increase in use of the large plastic containers that are lighter , the barrels are now becoming scarce. |

The fishing industry started to decline and poverty increased , they started utilizing the fisherman net-repairing skills to make hammocks. This gradually led to alternative income for the community thus empowering them.
Other crafts were developed and now they supply a range of carved crafts, jewelry and woven products. By receiving a fair trade rate the artisans can afford to stock materials , and by keeping the crafts affordable a higher turnover is achieved.
They are made from local hardwoods such as Wild Mango , Pod Mahogany and Poison Pod. |
